Barker's brilliant analysis of the Afrika Korps' performance during its 2 1/2 years of operations in the Middle East during World War 2, largely under the command of Rommel. Battle over Britain:

This is a much sought-after and authoritative record of the Battle of Britain, researched and written over a 12 year period by Francis Mason. Its 636 pages, in hard cover and in excellent condition, describe in great detail both the allied and the enemy actions and show progressive listings of air losses on both sides. It also contains some wonderful photographs. It is a must for any serious student of that famous battle. This same book can be seen to be offered for sale in the USA for as high as US$190.

Embracing Defeat:

Downer's research to write this history of postwar occupation of Japan leaves few questions unexplored. He shows us the intense and turbulent interplay between conqueror and conquered. Written in 1999, the benefits of hindsight and analysis make this a most intriguing exploration for the student of modern history.

The Eagle Squadrons:

206 pages in hard cover in fine condition with plenty of photos, this was written by Vern Haugland, an Associated Press correspondent in WW2. It describes the exciting experiences of some of the 240 Americans who voluntarily went to England to fly with the RAF in the name of freedom and adventure. 71, 121 and 133 (Eagle) Squadrons, RAF are well covered in here.

Dresden 1945:

Another Alexander McKee well-researched history of an important but cruel event - the destruction of Dresden, once one of Europe's most beautiful cities, in February 1945 by the saturation bombing carried out by allied air-forces trying to end the war by a show of might. The city all but disappeared; more than 100,000 people were killed. 334 pages with photos in hard cover in fine condition.

Published 1961, Quentin Reynolds describes the intriguing trail by ex-members of an Israel underground movement to Buenos Aires where, on 11 May 1960, Eichmann was finally kidnapped so as to be brought to face justice for being responsible for the systemic extermination of six million men, women and children during World War II. This book was, and still remains, a story to shock the world.

This is the 428 page autobiography of Air Marshal Sir Richard Williams KBE, CB, DSO. 'Dickie' Williams was often called the father of Royal Australian Air Force. He remains a legend and "These are the Facts" represents his unique contribution to Australia's military history.

Benito Mussolini:

In this well written, fascinating (and becoming quite rare) 368 page hard cover in fine condition but with a torn dust-jacket (see photo),  Christopher Hibbert's biography, with many photos, describes the tragedy surrounding this sexual, arrogant and bitter man who brought Italy to it's knees with his Fascist doctrines in search of power and his desperate need to join the Fuhrer's attempt to conquer  Europe during the build up and through the early days of WW2.

My God, Soldiers:

This 278 page hard cover in great condition was written by Britain's Patrick Howarth who'd served with the Eighth Army. Decades later, he revisited the path taken by his unit; he begins in Egypt through Italy and on to Austria. It's a journey during which he talks to survivors and those who lived along the path the Eight Army travelled.  It's military history and travel combined.

No Passing Glory:

Andrew Boyle finished this excellent  biography in 1953. In 384 pages he portrays in hardback in fine condition the life of one of the world's greatest heroes of all times ... Leonard Cheshire, Victoria Cross, Distinguished Service Order, Distinguished Flying Cross. Immortally, Cheshire is unique ... a distinguished war warrior  who quietly became the Christian devotee after WW2. He went on to make a dramatic difference to the lives of thousand of airmen who were suffering the aftermath of WW2's cruel penalties ... but he did this only by making many personal sacrifices.

Cheshire V.C.:

In 1965, Australian Russell Braddon wrote this 160 page biography as a "war and peace" story.  It's a hardback in fine condition and Braddon's own war experience as a POW of the Japanese has produced an empathy to Cheshire's own life story that really comes through. His many bedside interviews with Cheshire during his illnesses provides genuine compassion that adds to an excellent narrative.

I was Churchill's shadow:

Detective Inspector W. H. Thompson was Churchill's bodyguard in the 20s. He'd retired when war broke out but Churchill recalled him to become his personal shadow. This 200 page hard cover (no dust jacket) is in fair condition and provides many insights into Churchill the man, from Thompson's intimate viewpoint.

This authorised biography by Elizabeth Longford with many pictures, is a 155 page soft-cover version in good condition. It describes Churchill's life from birth to his death on 24 January 1965 and portrays his courageous greatness and leadership through WW2 in particular.

211 pages in this hard-cover in fine condition. It is Lucas's well researched version of the Germans' viewpoint of the Desert War using original German sources and interviews with many who took part in the campaigns and the struggles Rommel had with his own High Command. Plenty of photos.

J.M. Spaight, C.B., C.B.E first published through Hodder & Stoughton London, this study of British Air Power in August 1940. Fully indexed, the book (in good condition) provides a unique insight into the military and political thinking that existed at that particular early time of World War II. Excellent original photographs of many aircraft and ships, including the "Ark Royal" and the earlier plans for the Fleet Air Arm.

Alfred Price's 301 page work (225 x 297 mm) is a complete history in hard-cover of this classic fighter aircraft.  Importantly, it contains a comparison of the various Marks, excellent pictures and Appendices showing a wealth of information. This book is in new condition.

A 240 x 315 mm  80 page, well illustrated hard-cover in top condition, this book is an interesting analysis by Dr John Pimlott of some major decisions to carry out bombing raids on strategic targets and describes the evolution of some of the aircraft that flew them.

Suicide Squads:

A 296 page hard-cover in very good condition, Richard O'Neill's book provides excellent understanding of such special attack weapons as midget submarines, explosive motorboats, kamikaze aircraft, manned torpedoes, human bombs and demolition frogman used both Axis and Allied. It also describes the dates and circumstances in which they were employed.

This 237 page 245 x 305 mm hard-cover is in new condition. Holmes and Montbazet present 10 popular US  Navy aircraft (up to 1990); they are described and illustrated in magnificently detailed photos. Target Ploesti:

This 253 page, indexed hard-cover in fine condition, describes how Ploesti, in Rumania, was producing vital supplies for the Axis forces and thus became one of the US 460th Bombardment Group's targets.  Author Ted Newby's B24 Liberator (by name "Hanger Queen") participated and he writes an exciting war story, explaining, amongst a wealth of facts and information on bombers and bombing, how  a bombardier gets a fix on the target and the workings of the Norden and Sperry bombsights.

H.M.S. Ulysses:

Alistair MacLean expertly describes in a narrative story (hard-cover in fair condition - no dust-jacket), an escort's epic 14+ day perilous convey in 1943 through the Northern Atlantic seas from Scapa Flow to Murmansk during which the losses and hardships were innumerable and incredible.

The War between the Generals:

A 446 page documentary by David Irving (in hard-cover and fine condition) is well researched and contains his interpretations of the chronological events prior to, including, and after the Normandy landings. In support, he lists the comprehensive Archival Sources he used as reference. He intimately describes the extraordinary relationships and turmoil that existed between the Allied Generals responsible for leading their various Armies against Germany in the final push to finish WW2. The circumstances surrounding the Battle of the Bulge also feature.

Covering the entire war in this photographic Odhams Press record covers major theatres of war and describes the living conditions experienced by those in war zones. Some great black & white photos and interesting maps in this hard-cover set. All books, believed to have been printed in 1948, are in very good condition. To own a complete set like this is very rare.

266 pages (plus index) in 236 x 305 mm hard-cover (in new condition) of 1939 to 1946 eyewitness accounts that summarise by specific months, the most important events of the war. Marshall Cavendish produced this book in 1994 and he used good balance of informative photos to support his script.

Randolph Churchill compiled this volume of Churchill's many speeches between 5 May 1938 and 9 November 1940 and presents them in this 313 page hard-cover in good condition (but dust-jacket torn and edge scuffed). These are the speeches that inspired the British nation in the early part of WW2.

This 383 page historically based novel was written by Lionel Shapiro. It's a hard-cover (no dust jacket) and in good condition. Shapiro uses his characters to give poignant body to the chronological events leading up to and beyond the famous invasion operation: "Overlord".

Away All Boats: 

This is a classic 508 page historical novel (hard-cover in good condition - no dust jacket) written by Kenneth Dodson about the heroic USS Belinda's escapades as an attack-transport ship in the South West Pacific from July 1943 to April 1945. This book was later made into a movie of the same name starring Jeff Chandler.

Richard Pape flew 9 operational sorties as a navigator of an RAF Sterling bomber before being shot down in Holland. Wounded, he is hunted across Europe before, as a POW, he became a legend. In his 314 page auto-biography, (hard-cover with slightly worn dust jacket) he describes his exciting, sometimes almost unbelievable, adventures.

Burma Surgeon:

Lt-Col Dr Gordon Seagrave's auto-biography "Burma Surgeon" is a 190 page hard cover in fair condition. It begins in Rangoon in 1902 and covers, in diary fashion, this exceptional surgeon's service in Burma from the critical retreat in the face of the Japanese between 30 March 1941 until 1 July 1941.

Aces and Kings:

This first edition history of No 1 Squadron, Australian Flying Corps, was written by L.W. Sutherland, M.C., D.C.M. and published in 1935. The hard-cover is slightly faded and lightly scratched but print excellent. Lawrence of Arabia was connected to this Squadron during its service in Palestine.

Produced for school students, this 248 page soft-covered (in good condition) analysis of WW1's origins, right through to its aftermath, written by Carolyn O'Brien and Alan Merritt is an excellent reference for any student of WW1.

Jagdstaffel 356:

Although this is a fictitious Jagdstaffel number, the story and contents within this 126 page hard-cover (in fair condition but with a ragged dust jacket) written by M E  Kahner, was acclaimed to be absolutely genuine by many pilots who flew in WW1 on the Western Front in 1918. Only names and numbers had been changed for reasons private to the author. Many excellent and genuine photographs are included.

First World War Posters:

72 pages of WW1 colourful and brilliant posters (many were the propaganda types widely used by Allies and Axis alike). Each poster has an explanation of its use and purpose as well as a write up about the creator. It is a soft-cover in fair condition published by the Imperial War Museum in 1972.

Where they flew & Where they fell: 

A DVD copy of a VHS original that runs for about 60 minutes. It was filmed entirely in Northern France and includes photos, archive film and songs to tell the story of WW1 pilots in France. It tours some of the airfield-sites used during the Great War. The circumstances of the death of  Captain Albert Ball, the Victoria Cross winning ace, is explained as are the lives and deaths of several other aces including the Red Baron. There is some quality loss from the VHS tape but generally it tells the story well.

A History of Flight:

Courtlandt Canby wrote this hard-cover (in very good condition but slightly torn dust jacket) [Volume 3] 119 page collection, in chronological sequence, of designs, plans, drawings, paintings, photographs and related explanations depicting the evolution of aircraft and lighter-than-air craft from 1782 to 1963.

Above the Bright Blue Sky:

An oldie but a goodie ... printed in 1930, this hard-cover (in poor and marked condition) is an extraordinarily real life novel written by an ex-WW1 ace pilot, Elliott White Springs. Forget the poor condition of the book, this 1930 print is a really great yarn.

Early Flying Machines:

Focusing only on the developments that occurred between 1799 to 1909, this hard-cover (good condition with only small tears in dust jacket) is a pictorial history, with over 200 photos, drawings and captions. It was prepared by Charles Gibbs-Smith in 1975.

Sky Riders:

This was published pre-WW2 by Collins of London. 239 pages covering the first 30 years of aviation history, with supporting photographs, in hard-cover ( faded cover - no dust jacket). The inside cover features all badges of rank of the Army, Navy and Air-force.

A series providing detailed information about land, sea and air weapons used by both sides to oppose their enemies, produced about WW2 in about 1978 by Purnell in Great Britain,

A 127 page booklet in soft-cover (good condition) by Brig. Bernard Fergusson covering the proud history of the Black Watch Regiment between 1740 to 1945. It's service during the Desert War and in Europe is covered.

To the Honor of the Fleet:

A 493 page novel by Robert Pilpel about the intrigues of American and English military relationships during the first few years of WW1. It has a great ending involving the monumental naval Battle of Jutland. A hard-back (good condition - worn dust jacket). An excellent story.

Flying Fury: 

This is the sought after autobiography of Major James McCudden, V.C., M.C. and bar, DSO and bar covering his five years in WWI's Royal Flying Corps. He dedicated this book to the RFC as one of the last expressed wishes. James McCudden was one of Britain's greatest heroes who died tragically in a trivial accident eclipsing his wide experience and flying skills. Whilst taking off  his motor stopped and he side slipped into the ground.

Originally published in 1918, this version (slightly stained cover at the top with similar stain on spine) was printed in 1933.

This very rare record: "R.A.A.F Over Europe" has 189 pages plus 54 photos in hard-cover (stained by surface-water damage - some pages crinkled but all readable) edited by Frank Johnson.
